Unveiling the Hidden Dynamics: Role of HRM in Supporting the Health and Safety of Healthcare Workers in the Post-COVID-19 Pandemic World of Work: An Integrative Review

Abstract

Purpose: the main purpose of the study was to uncover the hidden dynamics of HRM's role in supporting the health and safety of healthcare workers in the current world of work. It specifically focuses on an integrative review conducted in Durban, Republic of South Africa. Design/Method/Approach (only for empirical papers): A comprehensive literature review was performed on 26 research articles and journals across reputable platforms which includes Google Scholar, Ebsco-host. The specific topic of interest was "COVID-19, human resource management, and the well-being of health care workers." Findings: Finding revealed that healthcare workers encounter numerous challenges the requires HR role to mitigate or help managed yet they continue to deliver exceptional patient care. Some of the identified challenges are but not limited to depression, suicidality, and long-term psychological effect. Theoretical Implications: Did you develop an existing theory? Did you reject any of existing theories? Which theoretical framework did you alter? Practical Implications: the practical implication for this study is that it has helped postulate and affirm the critical role of hrm in managing challenges associated with health work in a time crisis such as the Covid pandemic both post and during such events. Originality/Value: the study helps in illuminating and reinforcing the role of hrm as an important stakeholder in workforce operation and it is therefore important for organizational management to recognise such designation this is evident based on the fact the 6C,s of hrm was recommended as one of the path way to the effective management of the health and safety of health workers. Research Limitations/Future Research: The study is noteworthy as it reinforces the importance of HRM in organizations during a pandemic or crisis. However, it is crucial to acknowledge the need for additional research utilizing quantitative or mixed methods to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the role of HRM in effectively addressing and managing health workers during such challenging circumstances.
