Abstract

The study of the June 24th Hydrographic Microbasin (MCH4), Mexico, is a hydrographic analysis in an urban area, helping to identify the geographic source of water that flows into three areas in danger of flooding and home of 1,213 inhabitants dwelling in 304 housing units. These are distributed across three neighbourhoods: 24 Junio, Grijalva Infonavit, and El Bosque. This work studies the watershed and the direction of runoff flow through each of the streets, canals, channels, and vaults within the micro-basin area that contributes water to zones at risk of flooding within the MCHU June 24. The directional flow of runoff towards different areas in danger of flooding, and the conditions of the natural and urban drainage networks in the urban area are, undoubtedly, a valuable input that authorities can use for decision making. These may help in identifying key sites or infrastructures that allow the retention and diversion of floodwaters or structures that may intensify floods, reducing the volume and intensity of runoff that reaches flood-risk areas.
