Brief reflections on Fellini’s «The Bidone» and the novella I 4 of the Ecatommiti: some points of contact

Partendo dal confronto fra la novella I4 degli Ecatommiti e il film Il Bidone di Fellini, il contributo ricostruisce le vicende narrative del tesoro sepolto e della truffa commessa ai danni dei contadini e mette in evidenza alcuni elementi significativi al confine fra tradizione popolare e letteraria. Un breve affondo nella letteratura latina, italiana e spagnola, offre, inoltre, una prima chiave di lettura per evidenziare le connessioni che intercorrono frala novella e la sceneggiatura del film. Starting from the comparison between the novel I 4 of the Ecatommiti and Fellini’s film Il Bidone, the paper reconstructs the narrative events of the “buried treasure” and the fraud against the farmers. Also, some significant elements on the border between popular and literary tradition will be highlighted. A brief analysis of the Latin, Italian and Spanish literature also offer a first guide to highlight the connections between the novel and the film’s screenplay.
