Abstract

This work aims at analysing the link between the listening attitude, a component of the reflective practices of teachers and the academic performance of learners. This would provide teachers strategies so as to improve the academic results of learners with academic difficulties. We believe that the academic performance of students depends on the listening attitude developed by teachers during the progression of the lessons. This hypothesis is confirmed by a survey of secondary school students of Form 1 and teachers of Life and Earth Sciences, through a semi-structured interview and the analysis of the school performance of the students concerned. This investigation is supported by an experimental study of adoption and practice of listening in the classroom. The results show that students whose teachers develop an attitude of active listening have good academic performance.
