Pratiques de la représentation et sociabilité à Santa Cruz de Tenerife

By examining the practices of consular representation and sociability of René Chasseriau in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, this study analyzes the place occupied by the Consulate of France in the Canarian capital between 1874 and 1889, as well as the relationships that the consul established with the authorities, corporations and corporations linked to power in the city. Although regulated by the rules of the diplomatic protocol, the sociability of the consul was not limited to formal exchanges and, beyond official and public practices, could establish personal and private relationships.
