The effects of organizational justice on organizational health with emphasis on the mediating role of social capital in public libraries of Yazd province

Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the effects of organizational justice on organizational health with an emphasis on the mediating role of social capital. Methodology: This was an applied research conducted through correlational method. The statistical population included all 207 employees of libraries in Yazd province whom 126 of them were selected based on the Cochran formula and using cluster sampling method.The data were collected through a 20-item questionnaire on organizational justice (Niehoff and Moorman, 1993), the 24-item social capital questionnaire (Nahapiet and Gvrshal, 1998) and the 44-item questionnaire of organizational health (Hoy et al,1996). The collected data were analyzed using structural equation modeling by Smart-PLS2 software. Findings: The results of this study showed that organizational justice and its components had a significant impact on organizational health, and the components of interactional justice had the highest impact on organizational health with the effect of 0.538. Also, organizational justice had a significant impact on social capital and, on the other hand, the role of social capital on organizational health was also confirmed. Among the components of social capital, the cognitive dimension with the coefficient of 0.556 had the greatest impact and explained the most changes in organizational health construct. In addition, the mediating role of social capital was positive and significant. Conclusion: Increasing justice in the public libraries of Yazd province is a way to help the organization to enjoy the benefits of justice and also to create an environment in which greater trust and interactions and social capital increase. So the greater the trust and interaction among individuals, the health of the organization also increases.
