Abstract
- The substitution of human tissues by similar material obtained from other humans or animals has been one of the most ancient dreams but has only recently become a reality. Successful renal transplantation is the treatment of choice for most end stage renal disease (ERDS) patients, improving quality of life and increasing survival as compared with longterm dialysis treatment. The purpose of this article is to explain the process of transplantation by discussing the development of this method in region, postoperative course, potential complications and benefits. A brief overview of immunosuppression will also be discussed as well as future prospects including measure of improving the results and increasing the numberof renal transplants.
