Abstract

There are ongoing debates around the world regarding the effects of climate change on agriculture. All sectors are known to be affected by climate change, and the agricultural sector is no exception. The present study investigates the effects of climate change on agriculture in Turkey in the 1961-2018 period. In order to determine the link between the variables, an Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach to cointegration and Vector Autoregressive (VAR) analysis are applied. Results of the study show that CO2 emissions have a significant impact on agriculture. Thus, as Turkey’s population increases, food sufficiency and security will emerge as more important issues over the next decade, it is vital to take adaptive measures to cope with climate change and its impact on agriculture.
