Abstract: This paper describes the X-ray and gamma-ray imaging spectroscopy capabilities of the Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI). It also outlines RHESSI's major scientific accomplishments during the 16 years of operations from 2002 to 2018. These include unique contributions to solar flare research and to other aspects of solar physics (oblateness), astrophysics (magnetars), and Earth sciences (terrestrial gamma-ray flashes).<br />Comment: To be published as a chapter in the Handbook of X-ray and Gamma-ray Astrophysics
