Abstract
- The paper highlights issues pertaining to evaluation of the balance between the electronic and the printed form of an identical newspaper product. Of particular importance for the printed media is the phenomenon that the newspapers are facing competition from a product with identical contents produced by the same publisher. The Global Economic Crisis has affected all ventures and has negatively impacted on the respective national economies worldwide, accelerating the folding of many newspapers who contributed to the process with inadequate editorial concepts that chose to ignore the technical and technological advancement and its implications. Notwithstanding the global dimension of the recession of publishing companies, the local variety of the phenomenon is identical to its international mould. Initially, the phenomenon was attributed to the ownership structure according to which there are practically no local printed media with the exception of offshore companies whose owners are not publicly known. However, if the consequences of recession on the local newspapers are compared with its consequences on the newspapers in other economies where multinational global capital is not present in the same ratio, the rate of the spreading of recessive trends can also be attributed to the rate of events typical for the media business sphere that did not occur with the emergence of electronic business, but rather in accordance with the nature of the media as a specific business venture sphere.
