Інструменти мовленнєвої маніпуляції в англомовній 'жовтій' пресі

The article is devoted to determination of some tactics, devices, language means being the basic tools in strategy implementation of the English tabloids. Special attention is paid to the manipulative potential of the language means. The perspectives for further research of speech manipulation verbalizators in the English tabloids are discussed.The main aim of this article is to identify instruments of speech manipulation in the English tabloids. In this regard the following objectives arise: to establish the main language means of speech manipulation in the English tabloids and to identify the relationship between them; to define and describe the most common verbal markers of speech manipulation in the English tabloids.The term "verbal manipulation tools" in the English tabloids include tactics, techniques, verbal tools which implement strategies to create illusion, to generate emotional tension. The main tactics are: shift of accents (silencing), putting on masks (solidarity), sticking labels, offence, hint, speculation. The most common methods of manipulation of speech in the English popular press are: the use of hearsay, creating contrast, ridicule, distraction, implication, direct statement, information noise, frightening topics, distortion of facts.To manipulate the public opinion a variety of stylistic devices and other language means is used. Antithesis, oxymoron, irony add to the emotive evaluation of text. Non-standard and paradoxical style of English popular press is created by the use of metaphor, epithet, oxymoron, zeugma and pun. Among the means on the syntactic level in the English tabloids are often used ellipsis, aposiopesis, emphatic constructions.Using violated phraseology in the process of manipulation provides some advantages: the ability to create language picture of the world; high emotional impact; powerful manipulative force by means of expressive-evaluative parameters; implementation of the principles of hedonism, commercialization, economy of language resources; orientation to irrationalism.Thus, speech manipulation tools in the English popular press consists of tactics, techniques and linguistic resources. The greatest interest for linguistic research constitute language means, among which are: expressive means and devices on all the linguistic levels, precedent texts, phraseological units and their violation.The results of our studies can be used to further study of various aspects (cognitive, communicative, pragmatic, nominative) of the verbalizators of speech manipulation mentioned above in the English tabloids. The most attractive for further linguistic studies, we believe, is the study of phraseological violation as a powerful means of speech manipulation in terms of pragmatic direction of the English tabloids. Manipulative characteristics of the violated phraseological units ensure their functional versatility that is their congruence (compatibility) with any tactic and with any strategy of speech manipulation in the English popular press.

Особое внимание уделяется манипулятивным потенциям языковых средств. В статье обсуждаются перспективы дальнейшего исследования вербализаторов речевой манипуляции в англоязычной “желтой” прессе.
Стаття присвячена визначенню тактик, прийомів, мовних засобів як головних інструментів реалізації стратегій англомовної “жовтої” преси. Особлива увага приділяється маніпулятивним потенціям мовних засобів. У статті обговорюються перспективи подальшого дослідження вербалізаторів мовленнєвої маніпуляції в англомовній “жовтій” пресі.
