Abstract

CD10 mRNA expression in colorectal cancer and its relationship with cancer progression and prognosis were investigated.CD10 mRNA was quantified in 167 colorectal cancer and matched normal tissue samples using real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The tumor to normal tissue (TIN) CD10 mRNA ratio was compared with clinicopathological factors and prognosis.CD10 mRNA was overexpressed in 138 of the 167 tumors in comparison with the matched normal tissues. TIN was higher in colon, pN1/pN2, stage III and IV, and well- or moderately-differentiated adenocarcinoma than in rectum, pNO, stage I and II, and poorly-differentiated or mucinous adenocarcinoma, respectively. However, these differences were not significant. TIN was not associated with prognosis.CD10 mRNA showed significantly higher expression in tumor tissues than in matched normal tissues. Although CD10 mRNA was associated with invasion depth, lymph node status and TNM stage, it was not associated with prognosis.
