La fouille de la cour de la Maîtrise de la cathédrale, à Rouen

L’aménagement de l’Historial Jeanne-d’Arc a été précédé d’une opération archéologique. Des informations stratigraphiques concernant l’occupation de ce secteur de la ville, du VIIe siècle à nos jours, ont été recueillies. Deux structures maçonnées ont été identifiées. En retrait de l’actuelle rue Saint-Romain, la base d’un puissant mur appartiendrait à l’enceinte de l’archevêché roman. Une fondation perpendiculaire correspond au mur ouest d’une grande salle gothique dont ne subsiste que le pignon nord. The development of the Joan of Arc History Museum (l’Historial Jeanne-d’Arc) was preceded by archaeological work. Stratigraphic information was gathered on the occupation of this part of the town from the 7th century to the present day. Two masonry structures were identified. Below the present-day rue Saint-Romain, the foundations of a strong wall would appear to belong to the surrounding wall of the Roman archbishop’s palace. A perpendicular foundation corresponds to the western wall of a large Gothic room, only the gable of which remains.
