Abstract
- My essay focuses on Michael Frayn’s Copenhagen (1998), a science play about «the epistemology of intention», in which the three historical figures of the Danish physicist Niels Bohr, his wife Margrethe, and the German physicist Werner Heisenberg try to relive Heisenberg’s famous and mysterious visit to the Bohrs in occupied Denmark in autumn of 1941. My analysis highlights the strategies used to combine form and content and argues that the play succeeded in heating the debate in the international scientific community on the role of the two physicists in the development of atomic weapons.
