Titres Primordiaux (Amérique latine post‑colombienne)

Les Titres Primordiaux sont des manuscrits qui consignent la propriété foncière en mettant l’accent sur les limites de terres de chaque pueblo et, parfois, les actions des ancêtres fondateurs. Ils ont pour la plupart été élaborés pendant la période coloniale, en particulier aux xviie‑xviiie siècles (en même temps que les Codex Techialoyan), mais d’autres sont postérieurs à la Révolution mexicaine. Ils s’inspirent de titres anciens (grâces foncières, confirmation de possession et de protection des droits fonciers) obtenus dès le xvie siècle. Ce sont des récits rédigés par des personnages centraux (autorités naturelles, descendants des fondateurs) qui s’investissent dans leur république, construisent leurs églises et se mettent au service du culte des saints et des confréries. Ils installent ainsi leur pouvoir traditionnel dans un nouveau cadre : le pueblo des nouveaux chrétiens. The Titulos Primordiales are manuscripts that record ownership of land, focusing on the land boundaries of each pueblo, also sometimes on the doings of the founding ancestors. Most of these were implemented in the colonial period, particularly in the 17th & 18th centuries (at the same time as the Codex Techialoyan), others were developed after the Mexican revolution. They derive from old titles (land endowments, reinforcement of ownership & conservation of land rights) which were granted from the 16th century onwards. They consist in accounts by important figures (indigenous authorities, descending from the founders) who commit themselves to the Republic, erect their own churches & devote themselves to worshipping saints & confraternities. So they develop their traditional power within a new framework, the pueblo of the new Christians.
