Büyük Menderes Havzası Osmanlı Dönemi geleneksel konut mimarisinde ahşap süsleme

Zengin tarihi geçmişe sahip Menderes Nehri'nin etrafı tarihin en erken dönemlerinden itibaren yerleşime sahne olmuştur. Bu yerleşimin en büyük kanıtı içinde yaşanılan mekânlardır. Havzadaki ev ve konaklar, Anadolu'da gelişen geleneksel konut mimarisinin genel plan şemasına uymaktadırlar. Havzada az sayıda iç ve orta sofalı eve rastlanmakla birlikte genel olarak dış sofalı evlerin havzanın karakteristiğini yansıttığı tespit edilmiştir. Evlerin dış ve özellikle iç dekorasyonunda ahşap vazgeçilmez bir malzemedir. İslamiyet öncesi dönemlerden itibaren Türk sanatında örneklerini görebileceğimiz ahşap işçiliği, ev ve konaklarda geniş bir kullanım alanı bulmuştur. Dıştan kendi içine dönük sade bir görünüm sergileyen evler, iç dünyalarının zenginlik ve güzelliğini, ailenin durumuna göre süslenen ahşap elemanlarla sergilemektedir. Sivil mimari yapılarda azımsanamayacak derecede örneklerine rastlanan ahşap işçiliğinin, ne kadar sevilerek kullanıldığı bulunan örneklerin çeşitliliğinden anlaşılmaktadır.Bu ahşap elemanlar üzerindeki süslemeler, dönemin zevk ve üsluplarının merkezden uzak halk sanatına yansımalarının izlerini taşımakta ve halkın kendi kültürel değerleriyle birleşerek yeni sentezlere ulaşılmasının da önünü açmaktadır. Süslemelerde motif ve kompozisyon ile bunların detaylarına gizlenmiş soyut anlamlar, ihtiyaç için yapılan ahşap elemanlar üzerinde somutlaştırılmıştır. Böylece süslemeli ahşap elemanlar; hem halkın duygu, düşünce, istek, gelenek ve dinlerini hem de estetik zevklerini yansıtan birer araç durumuna getirilmişlerdir. Bu araçların amacını anlamlandırmak da detaylarda gizlenmiş motifleri gün yüzüne çıkarmakla mümkündür. Türk sanatının köklerinden geldiği bilinen değerleri İslami çerçeve içerisinde şekillendiren ve farklı anlamlar yüklenerek sunan motiflerin üslupsal bir süreklilik içinde havzadaki evlerde de devam ettiği görülmektedir. Ancak havzadaki ev ve konaklarda kullanılan bu motiflerin dönemin üslupsal beğenilerine de kayıtsız kalmadan değişen zevklere ayak uydurduğu ve tüm bu birikimlerden dönemin sanat üslubuyla uyumlu bir sentez oluşturdukları anlaşılmaktadır.
