HPV, Cervikal cancer and HPV Vaccines; A review

Amaç: Profilaktik HPV aşılarının ülkemizde de onay alması sonrası klinisyenlerin hizmetinde olacağı bugünlerde kullanım ve toplum bilgilendirilmesi önemli bir görev olarak belirmektedir. Aşının özellikleri ve kullanım önerilerinin yanında serviks kanseri, bu hastalığın özellikleri, serviksin preinvazif hastalıkları, HPV ye bağlı hastalıklar ve kanserdeki rolü tıp mensupları arasında ve toplum bazında önemli bir konu olacaktır. Toplum özellikleri açısından değerlendirildiğinde tıp mensuplarının aileler ve diğer toplum üyelerince yöneltilecek soru ve taleplerle karşı karşıya kalacağı bilinmektedir. Bu derlemenin amacı bütün bu sorularla birlikte serviks kanserinden korunmada aşının etkinliğini ve yerini olası problemlerle birlikte değerlendirmektir. Objective: After the recent approval of prophylactic vaccines for HPV infection in our country, the utilisation of the vaccine and notification of the community have become an important responsibility for the clinicians. The characteristics of the vaccine and suggestions for usage will come up as important topics as well as cervical cancer and the characteristics of the disease itself, preinvasive cervical lesions, the diseases associated with HPV and the role of HPV in cancer. Furthermore, it is not unexpected for the medical professionals to be faced with many questions and demands from families and other members of the society. The aim of this review is to evaluate the efficacy and role of vaccination in the prevention of cervical cancer along with the possible problems.
