Abstract
Considering today's trends, frequent use of devices and time spent looking at screens, the general opinion is that reading is on a downward trend, especially among the younger generations. Social media, the habit of obtaining as much information as possible in as little time and prevalent visual content are seen as characteristics of young people. The e-book was supposed to offer a solution and allow for the book to remain relevant in the digital age. However, despite the initial assumptions that the presence of e-book means a decrease in the use of the print book and its eventual disappearance, trends are showing that the opposite has happened and that both formats are equally sought after. The aim of this paper was to give an overview of both print and e-book, their main characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, presence online and to find out more about the attitudes and reading habits of students of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, predominantly members of Generation Z, through a questionnaire. To get a fuller picture of book-related opinions and attitudes, other research has been reviewed as well. Based off the obtained results, it was concluded that e-book needs to develop further and that the popularity of the print and the facts that students prefer it to read in their spare time is largely due to the reader's subjective opinion and that reading is not declining but being done differently.
