Abstract
- Silurus glanis or European catfish belongs to the family Siluridae. It eat mainly fish, but also crustaceans, annelids, and insect larvae. From February 2007 to February 2009 105 samples of European catfish from the Po River were examined. Bacteriological examination was performed, the bacterium most frequently isolated was Aeromonas hydrophila. The presence of European catfish in our rivers is a threat to the indigenous populatins of fish and could alter the environmental balance, leading to a reduction in the number of species and individuals.
