Abstract

During the Covid 19 pandemic as a state of emergency in the world, including in Croatia, teaching had to be moved from school and student desks to online forms of teaching. Although the safety of students and teachers is of utmost importance, online learning can affect the mental health of young people and thus their personal development. The aim of the work is to determine the impact of online classes on the mental health of young people and their personal development, and to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of this type of teaching, prepared by young people, and what consequences it has on their development. The respondents were pupils and students who attended online classes due to the Covid 19 pandemic. The questionnaire was anonymous and contained 16 questions with provided answers, with the possibility of supplementing some answers, and was conducted via Google Forms. The research was conducted in time period from 1.04. to 31.05.2022. The results of the conducted research show that the respondents were mostly not lonely during online classes, most of them did not have psychological difficulties, and the majority did not experience significant stress. Communication with peers was satisfactory, while communication with professors and teachers was lacking. The advantage of the online continuation for the respondents is more time for themselves, and they did not express the existence of difficulties and a lack of success. The pandemic has significantly affected education, and institutions in that area were forced to adapt to it, but online education and training still require flexible teaching and learning. The paradox of this crisis is the incredible and unprecedented speed of transferring education from on-site to online.
