Preval?ncia de enteroparasitas em c?es no Distrito de Viana do Castelo

Abstract

Disserta??o de Mestrado em Enfermagem Veterin?ria de Animais de Companhia apresentada na Escola Superior Agr?ria de Ponte de Lima Os c?es s?o hospedeiros de v?rios parasitas, parte destes s?o zoon?ticos. O aumento da popularidade dos c?es como animais de estima??o tem levado ao aumento do risco de transmiss?o de parasitas zoon?ticos para os humanos. Foram realizados alguns estudos sobre este tema em Portugal, por?m n?o abrejem grandes partes do pa?s, raz?o pela qual se procedeu ? realiza??o deste estudo cujo principal objetivo ? determinar a preval?ncia de enteroparasitas em c?es do distrito de Viana do Castelo, mas tamb?m tem por objetivo determinar os munic?pios mais afetados e comparar a preval?ncia de parasitas em c?es com tutores com a de c?es do canil e associa??es. Atrav?s da t?cnica de flutua??o de Willis e da t?cnica de sedimenta??o natural foram analisadas 228 amostras fecais de c?es do distrito de Viana do Castelo para a pesquisa de enteroparasitas. Foram tamb?m preenchidos 86 inqu?ritos pelos tutores dos c?es que participaram no estudo. A preval?ncia global de amostras fecais positivas foi de 16,7% [IC 95%: 12,4? 22,1%]. A preval?ncia de ancilostomat?deos foi de 11,8% [IC 95%: 8,3?16,7%], de Cystoisospora spp. 1,3% [IC 95%: 0,5?3,8%], Trichuris spp.3,9% [IC 95%: 2,1?7,3%] e de Toxocara spp. 2,6% [IC 95%: 1,2?5,6%]. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que a preval?ncia global de enteroparasitas em Viana do Castelo ? mais baixa do que a de outros estudos realizados no pa?s, comprovou-se que Ponte de Lima foi o munic?pio com a maior preval?ncia de parasitas e constatou-se que a percentagem de c?es parasitados no grupo de c?es n?o desparasitados foi superior ? do grupo dos c?es desparasitados, revelando o benef?cio da desparasita??o. Estes dados revelam que os tutores, m?dicos veterin?rios e funcion?rios de canis e associa??es desta regi?o encontram-se sensibilizados para a necessidade da aplica??o de medidas profil?ticas contra enteroparasitas nestes animais. Dogs are hosts to several parasites, some of which are zoonotic. The increased popularity of dogs as pets has led to an increased risk of transmitting zoonotic parasites to humans. Some studies on this subject have been carried out in Portugal, but they do not cover large parts of the country, which is why this study was carried out, whose main objective is to determine the prevalence of enteroparasites in dogs in the district of Viana do Castelo, but also aims to determine which county is the most affected and to compare the prevalence of parasites of dogs with an owner and of dogs from kennels and associations. Through the Willis flotation technique and the natural sedimentation technique, 228 fecal samples from dogs from the district of Viana do Castelo were analyzed, to search for enteroparasites. 86 surveys were also filled by the dog owners that participated in the study The global prevalence of positive fecal samples was 16.7% [CI 95%: 12.4? 22.1%]. The prevalence of hookworms was 11.8% [IC 95%: 8.3?16.7%], from Cystoisospora spp. 1.3% [IC 95%: 0.5?3.8%], and Trichuris spp. was 1.3% [95% CI: 0.5?3.8%] and from Toxocara spp. was 1.8% [95% CI: 0.7?4.4%], Trichuris spp.3.9% [IC 95%: 2.1?7.3%] and Toxocara spp. 2.6% [IC 95%: 1.2?5.6%]. The results showed that the overall prevalence of enteroparasites in Viana do Castelo is lower than that of other studies carried out in the country, it was proved that Ponte de Lima was the county with the highest prevalence of parasites and it was found that the prevalence of parasitized dogs in the nondewormed group was superior to the dewormed group, revealing the benefit of deworming. These data reveal that owners, veterinarians and employees of kennels and associations in this region are aware of the need to apply prophylactic measures against enteroparasites in these animals.
