Abstract

The net is a space of freedom and experimentation, but also a place where reproduce gender stereotypes and traditional power dynamics between men and women. In this paper we examine the role of gender stereotyping on the web in the reconstruction of a traditional image of femininity and masculinity. The research aims to analyze how gender stereotypes, legitimates constructed and disseminated body models, affecting everyday life and relationships of Internet users. The main objective of this study is to verify to what extent critical pedagogy of media can take over the function of educating younger generations, promoting consciousness and skills of active citizenship, that today are considered as crucial to face to the challenges of the global economical and political crisis. The theoretical framework is that of feminist critical pedagogy. Reference is made to the narrative methodology in training situations (qualitative research approach).
