Abstract

The photodynamic activity of bonellin has been investigated on rabbit superficial mycoses. The animals, experimentally infected with Trichophyton mentagrophytes, receveid topical applications of bonellin solution (100, 150 200 mg/ml) on the mycotic patches before the irradiation with a solar simulator (90J(cm2). Both bonellin application and irradiation were carried out once for each rabbit. The results for rabbits receveing 150 and 200 mg/ml of bonellin show that: 1)the microscopic and coltural examination, from samples collected 72 hours from the treatment, were negative and 2) after 9 days the animals appeared clinically and microbiologically recovered. The possible action mechanism is discussed.
