Il tema romano nell’esegesi figurata e nelle illustrazioni della 'Commedia'

Several images of Rome dot manuscripts and prints of the Comedy at the textual places where Dante mentions it or refers to Roman places transfigured in his imagination (e.g. Inf. 18th and 19th). This paper surveys the images highlighting the perception that illustrators and miniaturists had of both the city and the ideal greatness of Rome in the poetic invention of Dante.
