Features of microstructure, phase and elemental composition of Ti-Nb-ZR-Ta alloy produced by electron beam melting

Abstract

Present work describes the fabrication of a low modulus β-Ti alloy, Ti-35Nb-7Zr-5Ta (TNZT), by electron beam melting (EBM) with optimized laser parameters. The physical and mechanical performance of the as-printed TNZT has been examined and is correlated to the microstructure (phase and elemental composition). The results indicate the titanium alloy exhibited a microstructure consisting of bcc beta phases. The elemental composition corresponds to the mass content of the Ti-35Nb-7Zr-5Ta alloy.
