The multidimensional time in comics: a study of narrative strategies in Here, by Richard McGuire

Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar como se configura a representação do tempo na história em quadrinhos Here (1989), a partir da análise da sua estrutura e dos recursos narrativos utilizados pelo autor, Richard McGuire. Estruturada a partir de um ângulo de visão fixo, Here (1989) apresenta, de forma múltipla, multilinear e fragmentada, a evolução e acontecimentos do espaço retratado, num período de milhões de anos. Tal estrutura demanda uma leitura também múltipla, multilinear e fragmentada, a partir da qual o leitor consegue construir os sentidos da história. Sua análise, assim, possibilita uma melhor compreensão da linguagem dos quadrinhos, especialmente no que diz respeito à suas dimensões temporais. A escolha do aporte teórico, guiada pela temática e objeto de estudo, propicia um diálogo entre a teoria literária e os estudos das histórias em quadrinhos (ELIAS, 1998; NUNES, 1995; TODOROV, 2013; EAGLETON, 2006; GROENSTEEN, 2015; EISNER, 1999 e 2005). Espera-se, com essa intersecção, contribuir para um melhor entendimento acerca das possibilidades e potencialidades das narrativas gráficas. The focus of this research is the analysis of the structure and the narrative resources used to represent time in Here (1989), a short comic story written by Richard McGuire. Structured from a fixed point of view it shows, in multiple, fragmented and multilinear forms, the evolution and the events ocurred durging millions of years in the portrayed space. Such a structure demands a multiple, multilinear and fragmented reading from which the reader can construct the meanings of history. Its analysis, thus, enables a better understanding of the comic language, especially with respect to its temporal dimensions. The choice of theoretical approach, guided by the theme and object of study, provides a dialogue between literary theory and the studies of comics (ELIAS, 1998; NUNES, 1995; TODOROV, 2013; EAGLETON, 2006; GROENSTEEN, 2015; EISNER, 1999 and 2005). It is expected, with this intersection, to contribute to a better understanding about the possibilities and potentialities of graphic narratives.
