The correlative additive construction: a cognitive linguistic analysis

The correlative additive construction has its use quite frequently in textual portions of expository-argumentative character (GERVASIO, 2016b). Based on the theoretical framework of Cognitive Linguistics, especially Cognitive Grammar (LANGACKER, 1987, 1991, 1999, 2008), Information Structure (LAMBRECHT, 1994) and Presupposition (FAUCONNIER, 1994, 1997; MARMARIDOU, 2000), we also intend to examine the context and the communicative situation in which the expression is inserted. During the development of this qualitative research, we want to observe the syntactic-semantic impacts, as well as the discursive-pragmatic traits evidenced by the use of the mentioned construction and the changes of posture related to its interlocutors through this use. The work is developed from written records of the Brazilian Portuguese in use, taken from the editorials of Veja's magazine virtual page. In editorials, arguments that base the main idea of the text are arranged in a way to convince the interlocutor about the position defended by its author. This research confirms the hypothesis that the correlative additive construction is a process and/ or mechanism that, in addition to differing canonical processes of coordination and subordination, reflects, in discursive practice, a special mode of processing, in cognitive terms, of the intertwining of information distributed between the parts of that construction. In the same way, it is also verified a possible anchoring of the statements introduced by the correlative additive pairs into presuppositions. This favors the argumentative force of the user of the language in the discourse in relation to its interlocutors for adhesion of theses O presente trabalho tem como objetivo a investigação das características da construção correlata do tipo não só... mas também, aplicada ao discurso como correlator (ROSÁRIO, 2012; 2018), com sentido aditivo, amalgamado a uma nuance de quebra de expectativa. A construção correlata aditiva em questão tem seu emprego bastante frequente em porções textuais de caráter expositivo-argumentativo (GERVASIO, 2016b). Com base nos conceitos teóricos apresentados pela Linguística Cognitiva, sobretudo a Gramática Cognitiva (LANGACKER, 1987; 1991; 1999; 2008), a Estrutura Informacional (LAMBRECHT, 1994) e a Pressuposição (FAUCONNIER, 1994, 1997; MARMARIDOU, 2000), examina-se, também, o contexto e a situação comunicativa em que a expressão se insere. Busca-se, ainda, no desenvolvimento desta pesquisa de caráter, mormente, qualitativo, observar os impactos sintático-semânticos, bem como os traços discursivo-pragmáticos evidenciados pelo emprego da construção em pauta e as mudanças de postura em relação a seus interlocutores mediante esse uso. O trabalho é desenvolvido a partir de registros escritos do Português do Brasil em uso, retirados dos editoriais da página virtual da Revista Veja. Nos editoriais, argumentos que fundamentam a ideia principal do texto são dispostos de modo a convencer o interlocutor acerca do posicionamento defendido por seu autor. Constata-se, com essa pesquisa, a hipótese de que a construção correlata aditiva é um processo e/ou mecanismo que, além de diferir dos processos canônicos de coordenação e subordinação, reflete, na prática discursiva, um modo especial de processamento, em termos cognitivos, do entrecruzamento de informações distribuídas entre as partes dessa construção. Da mesma maneira, verifica-se a existência de uma ancoragem dos enunciados introduzidos pelos pares correlatos aditivos em pressuposições.
