The theories of relativity and quantum mechanics generated serious debates about the relationship between its new concepts and those pertaining to classic physics, between theory and experience, and the role that concepts that were considered fundamental would have to assume, such as of space, time, properties and causality. In the first part, we show the way Heisenberg understands the history of the development of modern physics, as well as the varied characteristics of the problems that followed it. In the second part, we show Heisenberg s reflections on the relations between classic and modern concepts, while we analyze the ways in which these concepts influence a varied number of human activities. Finally, we offer some indications on how is constituted a problem to which Heisenberg continuously returns: that one which concerns the possibility of men orienting themselves in the world. A presente dissertação tem como objetivo expor as idéias de Werner Heisenberg (1901-1976) sobre a natureza das transformações conceituais advindas com o surgimento da física moderna. As teorias da relatividade e a mecânica quântica geraram graves debates sobre a relação entre os seus novos conceitos e aqueles pertencentes à física clássica, entre teoria e experiência, sobre o papel que então deteriam conceitos antes julgados como fundamentais, tais como os de espaço, tempo, propriedades e causalidade. Na primeira parte, nós expomos o modo como Heisenberg compreende a história do desenvolvimento da física moderna, bem como as variadas características dos problemas que a acompanharam. Na segunda parte, nós expomos as reflexões de Heisenberg sobre as relações entre os conceitos clássicos e os modernos, ao mesmo tempo em que analisamos as formas pelas quais esses conceitos influenciam nas mais variadas atividades humanas. Por fim, oferecemos algumas indicações sobre como se constitui um problema ao qual Heisenberg continuamente retorna: aquele que concerne à possibilidade do homem se orientar no mundo.
