The deleterious effect of malnutrition associated with metabolic changes that occur in the perioperative period may increase the risk of complications such as infection, metabolic and hemodynamic disorders, increased hospital stay, increased hospital costs, reduced quality of life, and patient survival. One way to prevent or reduce these effects is to identify patients early and initiate appropriate nutritional management, but the medical decisions regarding nutritional behavior are still insipient, due to several factors. Thus, tools that can help in a practical way in the search for knowledge and decision making benefit not only the professional but also the patient. OBJECTIVE: To prepare a book for quick consultation for the assistance of health team professionals in the care of the surgical patient in nutritional therapy. Specifics objectives: To investigate in the scientific literature recommendations on nutritional therapy in surgical patients; analyze and select the information found in the scientific literature; organize the content for writing the book. METHOD: This is a methodological study that includes an integrative review, with a documentary and retrospective analysis that covers the five years of scientific publication. It was used as search sites: Scientific Electronic Library Online - Scielo, Public Medline - PubMed, Web of Science, COCHRANE Liberty, and the database of relevant scientific societies. RESULTS: We found 836 articles of which 90 were selected. The articles were compiled by topic addressed to the definition of content resulting in 11 chapters of the book. For the preparation of the chapters, new information pertinent to the subject has been integrated. CONCLUSION: It was possible to elaborate the book, containing the themes compiled from the analysis and selection of the articles found in the review. JUSTIFICATIVA: No Brasil 39% dos pacientes cir??rgicos hospitalizados apresentam algum grau de desnutri????o. O efeito delet??rio da desnutri????o associada as altera????es metab??licas que ocorrem no per??odo perioperat??rio pode aumentar os riscos de complica????es como infec????o, dist??rbios metab??licos e hemodin??mico, aumento do tempo de interna????o, aumento do custo hospitalar, redu????o da qualidade de vida e sobrevida do paciente. Uma forma de prevenir e ou reduzir esses efeitos ?? identificar precocemente os pacientes e iniciar o manejo nutricional adequado, por??m ainda s??o insipientes as decis??es m??dicas frente ?? conduta nutricional, por diversos fatores. Assim, ferramentas que possam auxiliar de forma pr??tica na busca pelo conhecimento e na tomada de decis??o, beneficia n??o s?? o profissional, mas tamb??m, o paciente. OBJETIVO: Elaborar um livro para consulta r??pida para o aux??lio de profissionais da equipe de sa??de no cuidado do paciente cir??rgico em terapia nutricional. Objetivos espec??ficos: Investigar na literatura cient??fica recomenda????es sobre terapia nutricional em pacientes cir??rgicos; analisar e selecionar as informa????es encontradas na literatura cient??fica; organizar o conte??do para elabora????o do livro. M??TODO: ?? um estudo metodol??gico que engloba a revis??o integrativa, com an??lise documental e retrospectiva que abrangeu os ??ltimos cinco anos de publica????o cient??fica. Foi utilizado como locais de busca: Scientific Eletronic Library Online ??? Scielo, Public Medline - PubMed, Web of Science, COCHRANE Liberty, e o banco de dados das sociedades cient??ficas pertinentes. RESULTADOS: Foram encontrados 836 artigos dos quais, 90 foram selecionados. Os artigos foram compilados por tema abordado para a defini????o do conte??do resultando em 11 cap??tulos do livro. Para a elabora????o dos cap??tulos, foram integradas novas informa????es pertinentes a cada tema. CONCLUS??O: Foi poss??vel elaborar o livro, contendo os temas compilados a partir da an??lise e sele????o dos artigos encontrados na revis??o.
