The Brazilian dilemma: between disbelief in the present and hope for the future

At this report we avoided the simple description and publishing of collected data, very common in traditional research on public opinion perceptions, and adopted a sociological interpretation focused on trust as the guide and indicator of the analysis and discussion of the field data collected. After organizing the information we found, we noticed that we could divide the study into two central points: the first one, entitled The trust in Brazil, discusses the trust of individuals in politics, the economy and the social structure in general, associating these variables to the expectations of the Brazilian people about the expected future for the individuals themselves and for the society. The second point, entitled The heart of the Brazilian people, analyzes the behavior of the Brazilians regarding various issues of our social structure. We also seek to understand the values that guide the choices and preferences of individuals today and in the future A partir da organização das informações encontradas, observamos que poderíamos dividir o estudo em dois eixos centrais: o primeiro, denominado A Confiança no Brasil, que vem a destacar a confiança dos indivíduos sobre a política, a economia e a estrutura social em geral, associando essas variáveis às expectativas do brasileiro a respeito do futuro esperado para o próprio indivíduo e para a sociedade. No segundo eixo, chamado de O Coração do brasileiro, analisamos o comportamento dos brasileiros diante de várias questões de nossa estrutura social. Pretende-se aqui também entender os valores que orientam escolhas e preferências dos indivíduos hoje e no futuro. FGV DAPP This study is the result of the analyses of public opinion research data collected by FGV/DAPP over August this year. For the collection of field data, 1,568 people from various cities over the entire national territory were interviewed. We favored an interpretation that is not frequently used for political and social monitoring research, opting to focus on the topic of trust for two basic reasons: 1) our daily monitoring of the public agenda and of big events through social networks points to a constant variable, that is, the extreme polarization of the country since 2002, but especially since the reelection of Dilma Rousseff; 2) trust as a fundamental sociological category seems to us a more efficient prognostic resource to measure expectations and difficulties for our country than simply listing names and preferences in this moment Este estudo é resultado das análises de dados de pesquisa de opinião pública realizada pela FGV/DAPP durante o mês de agosto deste ano. A coleta das informações em campo contou com 1.568 entrevistados de diversos municípios, em todo o território nacional. Privilegiamos aqui uma leitura pouco utilizada em pesquisas de monitoramento político e social, optando por focar na temática da confiança por duas razões básicas: 1) nosso acompanhamento diário da agenda pública e de grandes eventos pelas redes sociais aponta uma constante, a saber, a extrema polarização do país desde 2002, mas em especial desde a reeleição de Dilma Rousseff; 2) a confiança como categoria sociológica fundamental nos parece um recurso prognóstico mais eficiente para medir expectativas e dificuldades para nosso país do que o simples elencar de nomes e preferências neste momento. Para isso, fugimos da simples descrição e divulgação de dados coletados, bastante comum em pesquisas tradicionais de percepção de opinião pública, e adotamos uma leitura sociológica focada na confiança como eixo orientador e balizador da análise e da discussão dos dados coletados em campo
