A proposta tem enfoque mais importante na Análise Espacial, objetivando atender à demanda local por informações que sirvam de apoio ao planejamento desta região. O objetivo da pesquisa é analisar a evolução espacial da condição socioeconômica dos municípios do Vale do Mucuri no período de 2000 a 2010 a partir da utilização da modelagem potencial. Este modelo sintetiza a interação espacial entre diferentes regiões em função de suas massas e distâncias, em uma analogia ao Modelo de Gravitação Universal. Parte-se do pressuposto que maiores massas geram maior potencial de atração, enquanto o fator distância age como atrito, dificultando a interação entre as unidades espaciais. Estudos anteriores investigam o papel de Teófilo Otoni enquanto principal centro desta mesorregião. Para a operacionalização do modelo a massa socioeconômica dos municípios foi composta a partir do processamento de 23 variáveis socioeconômicas a partir da técnica de Análise de Componentes Principais e as distâncias entre as sedes municipais calculada tomando por base a rede de rodovias pavimentadas da região, de forma a mostrar a influência da acessibilidade na interação espacial. A partir do diagnóstico da mesorregião e do Modelo Potencial verificou-se a grande influência de Teófilo Otoni sob os demais municípios da mesorregião. Sua área de influência domina toda a mesorregião, em diferentes níveis de intensidade. Além disto, verifica-se uma maior interação entre os municípios localizados ao longo da rodovia BR-418, eixo histórico de ocupação da mesorregião e área na qual se localizam os municípios de melhores condições socioeconômicas. A pesquisa indica também a manutenção de um padrão de interação espacial no período de 2000 a 2010 na região, marcada pelo predomínio de Teófilo Otoni e pelo isolamento relativo dos municípios localizados ao norte da mesorregião. Abstract: This work discusses the relationship between the municipalities of the region of the Mucuri Valley through Spatial Analysis. The work area is located in the northeastern state of Minas Gerais, consisting of 23 municipalities. The main objective of the research is to analyze the spatial evolution of the socioeconomic conditions of the municipalities of the Mucuri Valley in the 2000-2010 period through the use of potential modeling. This model summarizes the spatial interaction between different regions according to their masses and distances, in an analogy to the Universal Gravitation Model. It starts from the assumption that larger masses generate greater potential for attraction, while the distance factor acts as friction, inhibiting the interaction between spatial units. Previous studies investigated the role of Teófilo Otoni as the main center of this region. In order to implement the model, the socioeconomic mass of the municipalities was made from the processing of 23 socioeconomic variables from the Principal Component Analysis technique and the distances between municipal centers calculated by the network of paved roads in the region in order to show the influence of accessibility on the spatial interaction. The regions diagnosis and potential model showed the great influence of Teófilo Otoni over the other municipalities of the region. Its area of influence dominates the region at different intensity levels. In addition, there was greater interaction between the municipalities located along the BR-418 highway, historical axis of occupation of the region and area in which are located the municipalities of better socioeconomic conditions. The survey also indicated the remaining of a pattern of spatial interaction from 2000 to 2010 in the region, marked by the predominance of Teófilo Otoni and the relative isolation of the municipalities located north of the region.
