Disserta??o (Mestrado) ? Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Ci?ncia Florestal, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2018. The seeds of the Fabaceae family usually have some dormancy, which represents an obstacle in the production of seedlings. Seeds of most Brazilian legumes are damaged by various insect groups, especially the bruchid (Coleoptera, Bruchinae). The determination of damage levels, rates of predation and effects on seed germination caused by bruchid are very important, since they can provide estimates of the predation pressure suffered by host plants. The consumption of the seeds can directly affect the amount that will be dispersed in the environment, as well as its viability. In this way, the damage caused by sitophagous insects can influence the colonization ability of the plant species and the spatial distribution, as well as the dynamics of their populations. This study aimed to study the germination of Senegalia polyphylla seeds attacked by bruchid and the production of seedlings from the seeds attacked by these insects. The fruits were collected in S?o Gon?alo do Rio Preto and taken to UFVJM for analysis. The indene and bruchid - damaged seeds were submitted to germination tests in five treatments, with one hundred seeds each. The best percentage of germination was obtained in healthy and sanded seeds. The mean values of healthy seeds imbibed in water and those of witches attacked germinated less than the others. Bruchid attack provided low germination, however did not prevent this process from occurring in part of the seeds. In sequence, another work was carried out to evaluate the production of seedlings from healthy seeds and attacked by bruchid, both inoculated with fungus. After germination, the seedlings were transferred to tubes and taken to the shade house. Morphophysiological measurements were performed at the end of 120 days. The seedlings originated from attacked seeds had similar characteristics as those from healthy seeds. There was a low mortality of the seedlings originated from the attacked seeds, demonstrating their viability in the production of S. polyphylla seedlings.
