Environmental impacts generated during the construction and start-up of the Guavio reservoir

El embalse del Guavio es un proyecto energético construido entre 1980 y 1992 que tiene como objetivo potencializar las capacidades y recursos ambientales que ofrece la región de Guavio en beneficio nacional, de manera que genera electricidad a lo largo del proceso que realiza esta estructura, abasteciéndose de ríos principales como el Guavio, Chivor y Batatas. Este proyecto está ubicado en cinco municipios de esta región, Gachalá, Ubalá, Gama, Junín y Gachetá, y como todo proyecto de gran magnitud ha generado impactos no solo ambientales sino también sociales los cuales afectan a toda la población y requieren ser intervenidas en la actualidad teniendo en cuenta el manejo ambiental realizado durante su construcción y la vida útil del mismo. The Guavio reservoir is an energy project built between 1980 and 1992 that aims to enhance the capacities and environmental resources offered by the Guavio region for national benefit, generating electricity along the process that this structure performs, supplying itself from main rivers such as the Guavio, Chivor and Batatas. This project is located in five municipalities of this region, Gachalá, Ubalá, Gama, Junín and Gachetá, and as any project of great magnitude has generated impacts not only environmental but also social which affect the entire population and require to be intervened at present taking into account the environmental management carried out during its construction and its useful life.
