Abstract

Several techniques for estimation of the power spectral density (PSD) , or simply the spectrum, of discretely sampled short data sequences are investigated in this thesis. These techniques are directly based on the fast Fourier transform (FFT) of the data sequence. However, an extrapolated version of the original data sequence will be used instead of the original. The aim is to enhance the resolution of the true spectral components of the signal without adding any false frequency components.
