Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Bariatric surgery leads to body weight loss and improved obesity-related co-morbidities. This study aimed at evaluating the impact of severe, treated obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) on weight loss, risk of complications and evolution of metabolic comorbidities at 1 year postoperatively. MATERIALS AND METHODS: All patients who underwent bariatric surgery and one-year of post-operative follow-up between September 1, 2013 and June 1, 2019 were included. The percentage of excess weight loss (%EWL), the complications’ rate and the regression of comorbidities were compared between groups with and without severe OSAS. RESULTS: A total of 371 patients, 215 (58%) without and 156 (42%) with severe OSAS were included. The body weight loss was lower in the group with severe OSAS 62.6% EWL [44.3; 77.7] than in the group without severe OSAS 73.1%EWL [55.2; 87.5] (p
