The Development of Mortality in the Czech Republic

Abstract

This bachelor thesis studies the mortality in the Czech Republic in the 1920--2013 period. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the development of mortality indicators and their connection with historical events. These indicators are described in detail at the beginning of the thesis along with an outline of the computation method. Furthermore, the development of the general and standardized mortality rate, excess male mortality, infant and newborn mortality rate, specific mortality rates, life expectancy and indicators concerning suicide are explored and analysed. The thesis also contains prognosis of the future development of life expectancy as predicted by the Czech Statistical Office.
