Abstract

Aim of this study was to determine whether there are any differences in electrical conductivity of milk between udder quarters with microprocessor-controlled device Mastitron LF 3000. We also tried to find out if there are any differences in electrical conductivity of milk based on different housing systems, cattle breeds, stage of lactation and successive parity. Data for the study involved 249 cows of which 135 Holstein breed, 43 Simmental breed and 71 crossbreeds with Simmental breed. When we compared electric conductivity of milk based on housing system we found statistically significant differences in % of lactose and somatic cell count [log10] P ≤ 0.05. Cows on loose housing systems had significantly lower electrical conductivity of milk in overall sample (5.53 ± 0.55a and somatic cell count [log10] (2.00 ± 0.51a), but they had higher % of milk lactose (4.40 ± 0.44a) However we found no statistically significant differences in discussed parameters based on cattle breed P ≥ 0.05. We concluded that, with successive parity and higher lactation stages electrical conductivity of milk and somatic cell count [log10] become higher. All this parameters have statistically significant differences P ≤ 0.05.
