Consumer awareness of the consequences of excessive paper consumption on the environment

Sodobno potrošništvo povzroča pretirano izkoriščanje naravnih virov in onesnaževanje okolja, kar vpliva tudi na papirno industrijo. Namen naloge je bil poiskati odgovor na vprašanji, če se slovenski potrošniki zavedajo posledic pretirane potrošnje papirja na okolje in ali jih posledice skrbijo. V nalogi je predstavljeno potrošništvo, pridelava in poraba papirja, vpliv prevelike potrošnje papirja na okolje in kakšna je stopnja zavedanja o tem med potrošniki. Na podlagi rezultatov opravljene lastne empirične raziskave lahko sklepamo, da se ljudje v Sloveniji zavedajo posledic pretirane potrošnje papirja na okolje ter kažejo visoko stopnjo zaskrbljenosti zanj, kar je pogojeno tudi s spolom, starostjo in izobrazbo. Modern consumerism is causing excessive exploitation of natural resources and pollution, which also affects the paper industry. Our purpose was to find an answer to the questions if Slovenian consumers are aware of the consequences that excessive paper consumption has on the environment, and whether they are concerned with the consequences. In the thesis, we presented consumerism, the production and consumption of paper, the impact of paper overconsumption on the environment, and the level of awareness among consumers. Based on the results of our own empirical research, we can conclude that people in Slovenia are aware of the consequences of excessive paper consumption on the environment and show a high level of concern for it, which is also conditioned by gender, age and education.
