A Educação para a Cidadania na promoção do sucesso em Matemática, na Educação Pré-Escolar e 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico

O presente relatório apresenta uma reflexão sobre as práticas ocorridas no âmbito da Educação Pré-Escolar e do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico, que integram as unidades curriculares Estágio Pedagógico I e Estágio Pedagógico II, respetivamente, do Mestrado em Educação Pré-Escolar e Ensino do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico da Universidade dos Açores. A escolha do tema deste Relatório, A Educação para a Cidadania na promoção do sucesso em Matemática, na Educação Pré-Escolar e no Ensino do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico, consubstancia a nossa intenção educativa de promover um processo de ensino-aprendizagem que permita a integração das áreas de Cidadania e Matemática, com o intuito de potenciar o sucesso nesta última, ao mesmo tempo em que se favorece a formação de crianças/alunos enquanto cidadãos ativos e responsáveis. Primeiramente, apresentamos um enquadramento teórico que fundamenta o projeto educacional desenvolvido no âmbito deste Relatório. Para enformar este trabalho, foi efetuado um estudo empírico acerca das conceções e representações dos educadores/professores sobre a Educação para a Cidadania, a Educação para a Matemática e o modo como as articulam no contexto das suas práticas. Por último, refletimos sobre o trabalho desenvolvido na nossa prática educativa, em particular na práxis desenvolvida, na integração da Matemática e da Cidadania, metarrefletindo sobre a formação cívica de crianças/alunos. Neste sentido, procedemos à caraterização dos contextos em que ocorreram os Estágios Pedagógicos I e II. Em forma de conclusão é feita uma reflexão global sobre todo o trabalho desenvolvido, evidenciando-se a relação entre a área de Matemática e a área de Cidadania e modo como a integração entre elas pode ser uma mais-valia para o processo de ensino-aprendizagem. Depois de todo o caminho percorrido foi possível perceber as potencialidades da educação para a cidadania, apesar de esta nem sempre ser valorizada pelos docentes, e entender o seu contributo para o desenvolvimento do pensamento lógico-matemático. report presents an analysis and a reflection on the practices that took place within the scope of Pre-School Education and the 1st Cycle of Basic Education, which integrate the curricular units Pedagogical Internship I and Pedagogical Internship II, respectively, of the Masters in Pre-School Education and Teaching in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education of the University of the Azores. The choice of the theme of this report, Education for Citizenship in Pre-School Education and Teaching of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education, embodies our educational intention to promote a teaching-learning process that allows the integration of the areas of Citizenship and Mathematics, with the aim of potentiating the success in the latter, while promoting, at the same time, the formation of children/students as active and responsible citizens. Firstly, we presented a theoretical framework that underpins the educational project developed within the scope of this report. To accomplish this work, we carried out an empirical study on the conceptions and depictions of a representative number of educators/teachers about both Citizenship and Mathematics Education and on the way those scholars articulate the two areas in the context of their practices. Finally, we described the work done in our educational practice, and then reflected upon it, particularly in the praxis developed, in the integration of Mathematics and Citizenship, meta reflecting on the civics training of children/students. In this sense, we proceeded to the characterization of the contexts in which Pedagogical Internships I and II occurred. To conclude the report, a global reflection is made about all the work developed, highlighting the relationship between the Mathematics and the Citizenship areas, and also about the way how the integration between them can be an asset to the teaching-learning process. After all the path taken, it was possible to perceive the potentialities of education for citizenship, although it is not always valued by the teachers, and to understand its contribution for the development of the logical-mathematical thought.
