Triad of feminine power in the valois mythological Pantheon (1547-1559)

Catalina de Médicis, Diana de Poitiers y Margarita de Francia constituyeron las tres piezas esenciales del poder femenino en la corte del rey Enrique II. No solo formaron parte del programa político-cultural Valois sino que lo alentaron y lo reafirmaron permitiendo el uso de sus respectivas imágenes para crear un verdadero panteón divino con el fin de consolidar las pretensiones de la dinastía. Este artículo explora la configuración de la iconografía mitológica cortesana vinculada a estas tres figuras y tiene como objetivo mostrar la génesis, el desarrollo y las personalidades que hicieron posible la construcción de este panteón iconográfico. Catherine of Medici, Diane de Poitiers and Margaret of France constituted the three most evident pieces of power at the court of Henry II of France. They were not just only part of the cultural and political Valois program, but they were also actively engaged within it, thus permitting the use of their respective images to create a true divine pantheon within which consolidate the pretentions of their dynasty. This paper explores the constitution of the mythological iconography relating to these three figures of power altogether to show its genesis, development and the personalities who made this iconographical pan-theon possible.
