Medžio simbolika Antano Vaičiulaičio novelėse

Straipsnyje analizuojami bandymai atkurti mitinę Pasaulėkūros akimirką lietuvių prozininko Antano Vaičiulaičio (1906–1992) novelistikoje. Autoriui rūpimos problemos novelėse koduojamos tam tikros srities gamtos simbolika. Neretai novelės prasmę leidžia suvokti medis ar jo atributai. Kone kiekvienam tekste atrasime medžio ir žmogaus paralelę. Straipsnio metodologinis pagrindas – centro simbolikos nusakymas pagal Mirceos Eliade’s ir svarbiausi medžio vaizdinio ypatumai bei jo simbolika lietuvių mitologijoje pagal Nijolės Laurinkienės ir Gintaro Beresnevičiaus įžvalgas. Augalų simbolika susijusi su gyvybės ciklo etapais ir reikšmėmis, tad straipsnyje aktualizuojami Gyvybės ir Pasaulio medžiai, nurodoma jų horizontalioji ir vertikalioji sandara, kiekvienos dalies reikšmės, apibrėžiamos svarbiausios funkcijos. Antano Vaičiulaičio ankstyvosios kūrybos rinkinio novelėje „Kada obelis žydėjo“ itin akivaizdus augalų kodas, siejamas su žmogaus įprasminimu erdvėje ir laike, ryški kosmogoninė medžio funkcija, įcentrinanti aplinkinius vaizdus. Obelis simbolizuoja amžinojo gyvenimo ir dvasinės meilės idėją, pušis – Pasaulio medžio atitikmuo – žymi kosmogoniją, gyvybės atnaujinimo laike simboliką ir struktūruoja novelę. Novelėje „Motiejaus šulinys“ klevas, sujungtas su vandens šaltiniu, atlieka steigties funkciją, įcentrina aplinkinius vaizdus, tampa pasaulėdaros ašimi. Novelėje- literatūrinėje pasakoje „Žvejų duktė Banguolė“ medžiai atlieka „ašies“ funkciją ir sakralizuoja veikėjos erdvę... Thus it is natural that the depiction of nature has an important place in the works of many Lithuanian writers. In the novellas of Antanas Vaičiulaitis the importance of nature is obvious, too. The main aim of this work is to explore the functions of the tree in the novellas of A. Vaičiulaitis. The first part of the paper deals with the main concepts of the World Tree in the universal mythology and heathenish religion of Lithuanians; we feel it necessary to explore the functions and the equivalents of this Tree; to explore the differences between the model of the World Tree in the universal mythology and the World Tree stated in Lithuanian religion, mythology and folklore. The second part of the present paper is devoted to the functions of the tree in the novellas of A. Vaičiulaitis: we aimed at finding the relation between the functions of the tree in the novellas and functions of the tree in universal mythology; at establishing the relation between the functions of the tree in the novellas and functions of the tree in Lithuanian religion, mythology and folklore; at demonstrating the importance of the tree in the creation of the feelings and emotions in the novellas.
