Heiratsverhalten als historisches Problem

Der interdisziplinär ausgerichtete Beitrag befasst sich mit dem Eintreten in den Stand der Ehe unter den europäischen Verhältnissen im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert. Dabei konzentriert sich der Autor auf historisch-demografische sowie sozial- und kulturgeschichtliche Herangehensweisen und die damit einher gehenden Leitfragen. So wird beispielsweise der Aspekt erläutert, ob bestimmte sozial-kulturelle Regeln existieren, nach denen die vorherrschenden Familienformen auf die Konstituierung der Ehe zurückwirken. Ein weiteres Augenmerk gilt der Frage nach dem Zusammenhang zwischen dem Aufkommen der Industrialisierung und der Dominanz der Kernfamilie. Aus Sicht der historischen Bevölkerungsforschung ist insbesondere der Zusammenhang von Heiratsalter und Bevölkerungszunahme von Interesse. Dies wird am Beispiel Deutschlands mittels statistischen Datenmaterials über das mittlere weibliche Erstheiratsalter erörtert. Der Text schließt mit der Diskussion der übergreifenden Fragestellungen und der daraus hervorgehenden Paradigmen. Die Auswirkungen auf die demografische Entwicklung, auf die Herausbildung kultureller Systeme und auf deren Fähigkeit zum Wandel unterstreichen die Bedeutung des Heiratsverhaltens als historische Größe. (ICG2) 'Patterns of marriage behaviour are a subject that is situated on the crossroads between historical demography, social and cultural history. Thus it allows a cooperation between disciplines that otherwise stand on different sides. While cultural history examines aspects like the changes in the attitude towards marriage, social history gets its bearings by the paradigm of ressource transfer and historical demography by the function of marriage as a demographic regulator in the 'Ancien Regime'. All these aspects underwent a change that is only unsufficiently characterised by the generic term of modernisation. Before the relations between the particular aspects of marriage patterns can be investigated, the existing discipline-specific theories should be checked. Taking the example of historical demography, it is shown that historical case studies have lead to a modified view of the explanations of Malthus or Mackenroth, and that we are still far from a deeper understanding of the transition from the so-called eastern to the western marriage pattern.'
