Abstract

The analysis deals with the strategies adopted for overcomming natural contrainsts. It demonstrates that the two, apparently contradictory, main factors are, in fact, complementary from a sociological point of view. Fishermen have no control over the income generated from their resources, but they can improve this thanks to tourism. Nowadays, fishing has become a selective activity, in which output and income generation now depend on the degree of specialization. Its balance is therefore precarious. In this context, socio-economic transformations have occured in recent years; the resulting critical situation is presented as a combination of old factors, and the new, external or internal factors, are produced by the new conditions of the production.
