Los verbos latinos en -izare (-issare, -idiare): el desarrollo de la variante -izare

The -izare (-issare, -idiare) suffix is first found in the Latin language in the comedies of Plautus and from then on has an increasingly powerful impact on the verbal system. The suffix appears in fields heavily influenced by Greek and is most productive in technical treaties and biblical texts. Verbs with this suffix enter the Latin language either as loan words from Greek, or are created within Latin from Greek or Latin nouns, verbs or adjectives (usually nouns). The suffix is taken into the first conjugation in Latin and has three different variants, each particular to a different period and style of Latin; -izare, -issare and -idiare. In this paper, we focus on the -izare variant of the suffix. We take a look at its use in verbs throughout the Latin Language as well as its semantic value.
