LOS AFROAMERICANOS COMO COFUNDADORES DE LA VITICULTURA DE ARGENTINA Y CHILE

El artículo examina el papel de los africanos y sus descendientes en la industria vitivinícola de Argentina y Chile desde mediados del siglo XVII hasta comienzos del XIX. Se detecta que este grupo desempeñó un aporte relevante en esta actividad, al colaborar con el cultivo de la viña, la elaboración de vino y aguardiente, su envasado, transporte y comercialización. También se destacaron en la innovación, particularmente en la diversificación del patrimonio vitícola regional, y en la elaboración de productos típicos, como el primer pisco chileno. Se compara el trabajo de estos grupos en las viñas de Chile y Argentina con el papel que les cupo en otros territorios americanos, sobre todo Perú. El estudio se funda en documentos originales inéditos de los fondos notariales y judiciales de Mendoza, San Juan, La Serena, Santiago, San Felipe, San Fernando y Cauquenes, juntamente con los registros de los jesuitas. The paper examines the role ofAfricans and their descendants in the wine industry in Argentina and Chile since the mid 17TH century until the beginning ofthe 19th. It is detected that thisgroup played a relevant contribution to this activity by collaborating with the cultivation of the vine, the production ofwine and brandy, packing transportation and marketing. They also stressed in innovation, particularly in the diversification ofthe regional wine-growing heritage, and the production oftypicalproducts, such as the first Chilean pisco. The paper compares the work of these groups in the vineyards of Chile andArgentina with the role thatfit them into otherAmerican territories, especially Peru. The study is based on unpublished original documents of notarial andjudicialfunds ofMendoza, San Juan, La Serena, Santiago, San Felipe, San Fernando and Cauquenes, together with records of the Jesuits.
