Based on the 1989 revised council directive for adapting the legal regulations of the member states concerning materials and objects destined to come into contact with food, the article informs about the directive and its amendments issued for plastic food contact materials. Migration tests and their regulations are of central interest. The national legal food regulations of the individual member states in the EEC are harmonized with the goal of breaking down trade barriers.
