Object-Oriented Methodology for Optimizing Information Flow in Manufacturing

Abstract
- Successful integration of new techniques into manufacturing systems requires the managerial systems to be receptive. This requires compatibility between current ideas in the management literature - in this case, of empowerment and team building - and the structural demands of the technological innovation. This paper demonstrates that object-oriented programming systems are a natural solution to production control in cellular manufacturing systems. The information flow in the cellular structure is illustrated with a case study of distributed production control written in C++.
