Histological Findings in Lung Diseases Studied in a Group of Patients With HIV/AIDS

El objetivo de este trabajo fue describir las diferentes etiologías infecciosas y hallazgos histológicos de la neumopatía observada en un grupo de pacientes con VIH/SIDA controlados en el Instituto Autónomo Hospital Universitario de los Andes, en Mérida, Venezuela. Se realizó biopsia transbronquial a 36 pacientes portadores de VIH. Las muestras presentaron procesos inflamatorios en diferentes grados de intensidad. Destacó el daño alveolar difuso acompañado por agentes infecciosos. Las alteraciones histológicas correspondieron a la afectación de estructuras alveolo-intersticiales, con la presencia de más de un germen. El daño alveolar difuso forma parte de las alteraciones histológicas observadas en las neumopatías de pacientes VIH/SIDA. La alta prevalencia del compromiso pulmonar estuvo en estrecha relación con el déficit de terapia antirretroviral de gran actividad (TARGA) y el déficit de linfocitos CD4+. The aim of this study was to describe the different infectious etiologies and histological findings of lung disease observed in a group of patients with HIV/AIDS controlled at the Autonomous Institute University Hospital of the Andes in Merida, Venezuela. Transbronchial biopsy to 36 HIV patients was conducted. The samples showed inflammatory processes in different degrees of intensity. Relevant diffuse alveolar damage accompanied by infectious agents. The histological changes were for the involvement of alveolar-interstitial structures, with the presence of more than one germ. Diffuse alveolar damage is part of the histological changes observed in pulmonary diseases HIV / AIDS patients. The high prevalence of lung involvement was closely related to the deficit of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) and the deficit of CD4 + lymphocytes. 5-10
