Spin-orbit scattering measurements from localization and superconducting tunneling

Abstract

Two independent methods are used to measure the spin-orbit scattering rate in thin films of Al. Superconducting tunneling gives a rate that agrees reasonably well with normal-state magnetoresistance measurements interpreted by use of weak-localization theory. This agreement is good considering that the theory of superconducting tunneling does not include localization effects.
