Sociologie et littérature face à la question du travail : le cas italien

Cette étude se propose de réfléchir sur le rapport entre sociologie et littérature, en revenant sur la question cruciale – et toujours ouverte – de la légitimité de l’usage sociologique des sources littéraires. Il s’agira notamment ici d’enquêter sur une articulation particulière de cette relation, le récit littéraire du monde du travail, en examinant plus spécifiquement le cas italien. À l’instar d’autres pays occidentaux – mais peut-être plus qu’eux – l’Italie a expérimenté les transformations récentes du monde du travail (flexibilité, précarisation, parcellisation), et elle a produit, ces vingt dernières années, une grande quantité de textes littéraires qui mettent en scène de tels changements en tâchant de les interpréter. Il saggio si propone di riflettere sul rapporto fra sociologia e letteratura, ritornando sulla questione cruciale – e sempre aperta – della legittimità dell’uso sociologico delle fonti letterarie. Si tratterà, nella fattispecie, di indagare su una delle articolazioni di tale relazione, il racconto letterario del mondo del lavoro, esaminando più specificamente il caso italiano. Come altri Paesi occidentali – ma forse anche più di essi – l’Italia ha sperimentato da vicino le trasformazioni recenti del mondo del lavoro (flessibilità, precarizzazione, frammentazione) e ha prodotto, negli ultimi vent’anni, una gran quantità di testi letterari che mettono in scena tali cambiamenti e cercano di interpretarli. This essay aims to reflect upon the relationship between sociology and literature, focusing on the crucial issue—on which scholars have not yet reached agreement—of whether literary sources can be interpreted using a sociological approach. This will include examining literary representations of the world of work, looking more specifically at the case of Italy. Like other western countries—but perhaps to an even larger extent—Italy has recently seen significant transformations in the world of work (workplace flexibility, temporary employment, fragmentation of the labour force) and, over the past 20 years, has produced a large number of literary texts that depict these changes and attempt to interpret them.
